Wild Church – October 2026 – Draw Near:Abiding – Rooted and Connected
Yesterday afternoon at Wild Church, we continued our journey of Drawing Near by exploring what it means to abide or remain in God. Last month, we thought about making space for God. This time, we asked the question: What does it mean to remain in that space?
After a time of sung worship led by Laura, Si and Ali invited us to gather around a tree and think about what keeps it standing and growing. We looked at its strong bark and branches, but also considered its roots – mostly hidden from view, yet essential to its life and strength.
We wrapped string around the tree to represent its roots, and each of us added a card sharing something that helps us stay connected to God. Just as a tree depends on its roots, what we are rooted in shapes how we live and grow.

From roots, we moved on to fruit! Ali led us around the site to look for signs of life. Even in autumn, there was plenty to discover. We reflected on how a healthy tree produces good fruit, and how, as we remain in Jesus, our lives can also grow fruit. We each added a leaf to our Tree of Abiding, writing or drawing something we would love God to grow in us.

Lyndon then shared a brilliant illustration using sticks covered in lichen, exploring the relationship between the fungi and algae that live together to form it. Their partnership gave us a picture of the life that comes through remaining connected. He challenged us to find space in our everyday lives simply to be with God.
We finished with a prayer, a blessing from Ali, and some delicious blackberry and apple crumble which we cooked and shared together. Thankfully, despite the forecast, the rain stayed away!
It was a lovely afternoon of worship, discovery, reflection and fellowship, reminding us that following Jesus isn’t just about making space for Him, but learning to remain in Him – rooted in His love and allowing Him to grow His fruit in us. 🍃
