Why Real Change is Slow (And Why That’s Good News)

It’s the age of the “microwave”, and it affects us all. Is it any wonder that when we come to God, we secretly expect instant transformation? But that’s not how it works – Spiritual CHANGE doesn’t work that way.
The kind of CHANGE that Jesus brings is not simply behaviour modification–it’s heart renewal, which inevitably CHANGES our behaviour. But heart renewal is a slow process because it’s relational.
God is not upgrading our habits like the software on our phones or computers. He is forming Christ in us.
That means that God deals with roots, not just fruit. He reshapes desires, not just decisions. He teaches trust, not just discipline.
And I am certain that God, who began the good work in you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.
Philippians 1:6 (New Living Translation)
This verse reminds us that He who began a good work in us will carry it on to completion. The process is ongoing.
So, when growth feels slow, don’t panic. Slow growth often means deep growth. And don’t quit because transformation isn’t dramatic. God works underground before He grows anything above the surface.

Transformation happens as we place ourselves before God and allow Him to form us over time. We cannot engineer holiness. It’s in the act of surrender that transformation begins.
Our responsibility is to create space for God.
God’s “response” is to fill that space with His presence, peace, love and power.
And that’s where transformation begins. In His presence.
Take heart – He is at work in you.

REFLECTION
Real CHANGE is slow because roots have to grow before fruit appears
You are not behind. You are being formed.
Striving produces exhaustion. Surrender produces transformation
Are you trying to rush what God is patiently growing?
